The Nightingale Kauri Side Table is so named because the top was created from a section of Kauri floor salvaged from the now dismantled Nightingale Ward at the old Masterton Hospital. Built in 1908 the building was dismantled along with the rest of the old hospital, demolition work was completed in 2022. Having been obtained in it’s raw state the top was cleaned and resurfaced allowing it to retain some of it’s more than 100 year history, the original joists under the top were trimmed but otherwise left as found and the top was edged with floor boards from the same floor section simply refinished and cut to fit. The top was dressed as all my pieces are with our own JK Bespoke Manuka Hive Bees Wax and fitted with the “raw steel” legs made in our own workshop to create another unique JK Bespoke piece.
